2005 Ducati ST-3 SPORT TOURING
This is a remarkably clean and well kept one-owner Ducati ST3. These machines offer a beautifully smooth riding experience and upright seating position with superb styling. Most sport touring bikes leave a lot to be desired when it comes to being sporty, but the Ducati ST series have always been essentially very comfortable bikes with sporty engines. The power delivery from these cycles is like you'd expect from other Ducatis - lively in the lower rev range, and quite comfortable at cruising speeds.
The ST series bikes started with the ST2 with the 2 valve engine akin to a Monster. Power delivery for those bikes is very torque minded, but the engine feels a bit taxed while on the highway for extended times. Ducati then developed the ST4 machines using the 4 valve engine from the 916. With this power-plant the ST4 would pull quite nicely once in the rev range, but low end would suffer a bit in town. Ducati listened to rider reviews and developed this 3 valve engine exclusively for the ST3. Most sport touring riders don't need the track performance of a 4 valve engine, but definitely want a smooth experience on the highway unavailable to the 2 valve. These ST3s are the result of a decade of revision and experimenting to achieve a superb machine, and Ducati definitely succeeded.
This particular bike is a one owner machine. The original owner is now over 80 years old, if you can believe it. His health is just fine actually, but he's simply done with distance highway travel, now content with his Ducati Monster around town. All of the maintenance has been kept up on time every time, and it definitely shows. The cycle has made the voyage to the Tail of the Dragon roadway from Wisconsin a few times and so wears a dragon patch as an homage to this achievement.
For the most part this is a completely stock machine, save for a few key touches. The seat has been upgraded to a lovely Corbin-brand option which is supremely comfortable. A number of accented areas on the bike have been painted silver with red stripe trims; from the factory the ST3 is a blob of solid black. These accent aren't trying to hide any damage or anything strange like that - the previous owner has simply been an auto paint hobbyist for many years and wanted some personal flare. The only other add-on is a throttle lock cruise control which could easily be removed if it's not your taste.
The bike comes with a nice factory set of locking hard bags which can be quickly removed for times they aren't needed. Of course the bike includes the essentials that every used Ducati ought to have; the owner's manual, factory toolkit, the black ignition key, the red ignition key with key code card, keys for the saddlebags, and the under-seat pouch to hold these items.
Recently the cycle has been fully serviced with an oil change, fresh timing belts, a valve clearance check, flushed engine coolant.
Before being posted for sale, this cycle was fully inspected with a test-ride here at the shop.
Overall the cycle runs great, looks sharp, and is ready to be loved for years to come.
